SDCC 2016: Brie Larson Confirmed As CAPTAIN MARVEL

By Dominick Ferrara V

Almost two months after Variety reported that she was Marvel Studios’ top choice to topline CAPTAIN MARVEL as Marvel’s first woman to lead her own standalone film, Academy Award winner Brie Larson has officially been cast as the titular character.

Her casting was confirmed at Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con tonight, and she came on stage to greet the fans that will be watching her possibly lead the next group of Avengers.

Kris Tapley of Variety reported tonight that she was pulled from press for her upcoming film “Kong: Skull Island” that was to be taking place at the same time as her Hall H appearance, making him wonder when exactly her deal to play the character was closed.

Marvel is gaining an incredible young actress with this casting. Larson won an Oscar at the age of 26 this past year for her powerful performance in “Room,” which showcased her ability to carry a film.

While CAPTAIN MARVEL doesn’t have a director, it appears as though the character will appear in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and will be needed on set when the film begins production, which is the reasoning for the early casting.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR PART 1 will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with a May 4, 2018 release date.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is set for a March 8, 2019 release.

Marvel Announces ANT MAN AND THE WASP

By Dominick Ferrara V

Just one year after Marvel announced their Phase 3 lineup and 8 months after their “Spider Man” deal was announced, the studio has decided to further shake up Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, announcing 4 new films and two release date changes.

The biggest of the new announcements is that “Ant Man,” one of the summer’s most surprising films both critically and financially, will be receiving a sequel. The film is officially titled “ANT MAN AND THE WASP,” making it the first Marvel Studios film to feature a female heroine in its title. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will return to their title roles, but there is no word on whether Michael Douglas, Michael Peña, or any other cast members from the original film will reprise their roles in the sequel. The film will hit theaters on July 6, 2018.

The original “Ant Man” grossed over $400 million worldwide and is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

In order to make room for ANT MAN AND THE WASP on their release calendar, Marvel has moved BLACK PANTHER up to February 16, 2018 and pushed CAPTAIN MARVEL back to March 19, 2019.

The studio also announced release dates for three untitled films on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020.

Are you excited to see ANT MAN AND THE WASP, BLACK PANTHER, or CAPTAIN MARVEL? What do you think the three mystery dates could be? Comment below and let me know!
